Congratulations!
You've completed another step on your journey to understanding how the Living Library works!
After experiencing the process of searching for Living Books, interviewing them, and exploring their stories on site, the next step is to reflect on what you've learned. Along the way, you created an ideal Living Book profile—recognizing both the strengths to embrace and the flaws to avoid. You discovered who can become a Book and the importance of sharing personal stories. You then explored how to shape a Book’s narrative, how to find the right Book for a specific topic, and how to conduct meaningful interviews.
Let's define what Living Books are and what they are like:
Living Books are real people who volunteer to share their personal experiences, stories, and identities with others in a structured, dialogue-based setting. They often represent marginalized or discriminated groups—such as refugees, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, former addicts, and religious minorities—or people who work closely with these communities. However, anyone with a unique or impactful life story that can raise awareness, foster empathy, or promote inclusion may become a Living Book.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding the Living Book concept and the value of personal storytelling in breaking stereotypes.
- Identifying who can be a Living Book and recognizing the qualities to seek or avoid.
- Developing skills to shape and structure stories for clarity, emotional impact, and safety.
- Learning how to search for, select, and interview Living Books effectively and respectfully.
- Reflecting on personal learning journey, including ethical responsibilities and personal growth.
Watch the video and remember the 5 techniques for better storytelling that we discovered during the workshop on Friday. You will also find the attached presentation used during the workshop. PowerPoint presentation will help you remember what we did and guide you on your way.

After obtaining practical knowledge during the workshop, the time for recognition of gained skills has come!
In order to successfully master this activity and earn badges, think carefully about the workshop you attended. Watch a video about 5 techniques of storytelling, pay attention of all the elements, go through the presentation and try to remember what was discussed during the workshop on Friday. Try to remember what made the biggest impression on you. What new things did you learn, and what knowledge did you already have that you applied?
