On your journey, you have explored digital badges, experienced diversity, prejudices and stereotypes, learned about the history of Living Library, learned about the perspective of Living Books, developed a strategy for searching Books for your library and developed storytelling strategies. Now, the time to form your team has come!
During the previous workshop, you were taught to prepare volunteers for effective participation in the Living Library project. You gained a clear understanding of different volunteer roles, developed skills for conflict resolution, and learned how to maintain a safe and inclusive space for all.
Key learnings:
The roles and responsibilities of volunteers in the Living Library.
Practical skills for conflict resolution and emotional support.
Effective communication and active listening techniques.
How to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for participants.
We prepared some examples for you! Continue and you will find two videos about the Living Library event organised by other associations. One video is in English and another is in Italian. Watch the one you feel the most comfortable with (or bothy, because why not) and pay attention to how the event is organized, who are the Living Books, what they talk about and how the event influences its participants.
You are also equipped with a PowerPoint presentation used during the workshop as a memory refresher and tool for your own event!
During the workshop that you attended, you took part in the Living Library simulation and learned about different volunteer roles. Let's do a brief overview of the four main volunteer roles:
Librarians: Event hosts and guest coordinators.
VolunteerHosts: Timekeepers and coordinators for books.
*Support Team: Conflict resolution and emotional support.
*Volunteer Reporter: Collects feedback from books, volunteers, and visitors.
*Don't forget that these roles are not obligated, but rather appreciated!
Now, it's time to reflect on what you have learned!
Чтобы получить этот бейдж необходимо завершить все задачи
Read the descriptions of the four volunteer roles (Librarian, Volunteer Host, Support Team, and Volunteer Reporter). Write a short text (2-3 sentences) explaining which role you find most interesting and why.
After participating in the Living Library simulation, write a reflection (3-4 sentences) on what you learned and how you handled the situation. What were the obstacles? How did you handle it? What perspective did this activity open for you?
